Tiny Tots FAQ

What would you like to know?

What is judo?

Judo is a Japanese martial art that focuses on throwing and grappling techniques, without any striking. It teaches balance, coordination, and control, making it a safe and engaging activity for children. Judo also emphasises respect, discipline, and self-confidence, which are valuable life skills.

What age group is the Tiny Tots Judo Programme for?

The Tiny Tots Judo Programme is designed for children aged 3 to 5 years. The activities are tailored to suit their developmental stage, focusing on fun, foundational skills, and safe play in a supportive environment.

Are classes strict?

Not at all! Tiny Tots Judo focuses on learning through play. The sessions have a flexible structure, featuring fun exercises that teach basic techniques while also promoting strength, balance, and coordination.

What will my child learn in the programme?

Your child will learn basic judo skills such as balance, coordination, safe falling (ukemi), and body awareness. The programme also incorporates games and activities that promote teamwork, confidence, and resilience, all while having fun in a structured yet playful setting.

Is judo safe for toddlers and preschoolers?

Yes, judo is very safe for young children when taught in a controlled environment. Our programme uses soft mats, age-appropriate equipment, and playful activities to ensure safety.

What should my child wear to judo classes?

Comfortable clothing such as a t-shirt and shorts is perfect for beginners. As your child progresses, a judo uniform (judogi) can be purchased for about $50. Clean bare feet are recommended for better grip on the mats. Please ensure your child’s clothing is free of zippers, buttons, or anything that could cause discomfort during activities.

What about Blue Card and first aid?

Sensei Aaron holds a valid Blue Card and is certified in first aid and CPR. He has extensive experience working with young children and is passionate about creating a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for your little ones to learn and grow.

When are fees due?

Invoices are to be paid by the week before commencement of term.

How long are classes?

Tiny tots are scheduled for half an hour but we may run an extra ten or fifteen minutes longer if energy levels are good. We'll play it by ear, but you can scoop up your little judoka and go if needed.

Can parents stay and watch?

This is preferred. We have a seating area at the edge of the mats where you can chat, sip coffee, or watch the little judokas play. Parents are encouraged to enter the mat area to engage with their children.
