Private classes

Speedrun your Judo journey!

Focused lessons

One-on-one or small group instruction tailored to your experience, goals, and learning pace. Private lessons allow instructors to concentrate on technique, movement, and understanding without the distractions of a group class.

Bring some friends

Train with family members or friends in a private session. Small groups make it easier to learn together, stay motivated, and enjoy a supportive training environment while still receiving individual attention.

Flexible times

Arrange a session at a time that suits your schedule. Private lessons offer greater flexibility than regular classes and can be organised around school, work, or other commitments.

Private Classes FAQ

What would you like to know?

What is judo?

Judo is a Japanese martial art that focuses on throwing and grappling techniques, without any striking. It teaches balance, coordination, and control, making it a safe and engaging activity for children. Judo also emphasises respect, discipline, and self-confidence, which are valuable life skills.

What ages can attend private classes?

Private classes are available for all ages. For children, we strongly recommend training with a partner of a similar age and size. It can be difficult for children to progress beyond basic techniques when training exclusively with much larger partners.

Can I still train in the group classes?

Absolutely. Many members attend private lessons in addition to their regular group classes.

I have specific goals. Can you cater to these?

Yes. Private lessons can be tailored to your goals, whether that includes improving fitness, refining throwing or grappling techniques, learning self-defence fundamentals, preparing for gradings, or improving confidence in sparring.

Do I need to be a club member?

Yes. All participants must be enrolled members in order to attend private or group classes.

How long is a private class?

Private classes are typically one hour in duration.

How many people can attend a private class?

Private classes may be one-on-one or small group sessions. Group sizes are kept small to ensure focused instruction.

Are private classes suitable for beginners?

Yes. Private lessons are well suited to beginners, particularly those who prefer a slower pace or more individual guidance when starting judo.

Do I need a judo gi?

A judo gi is highly recommended. If you are new to judo, please contact us before your session to discuss suitable training attire. A quality judogi can be purchased through the club.

Can private lessons replace group classes?

Private lessons work best alongside regular group classes, which provide valuable experience training with a variety of partners. But we do understand that individual circumstances may prevent students from attending group classes.

Is there a cancellation policy?

Please let us know as early as possible if you need to cancel. Our instructors often adjust their schedules to accommodate private classes. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the scheduled start time will incur the full class fee.

The pricing confuses me

Private lessons are $50 for one participant. Each additional participant is $20. For example, two people would be $70, three people $90, and so on. Bringing friends is a great way to share the cost.
